Cinema has always meant more to me than simply watching stories unfold on a screen. It has been a way of understanding people, cultures, and emotions across borders. Attending the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival as a Delegate, held from 6 to 13 November 2025, became a deeply meaningful and memorable experience.

For seven days, Kolkata truly lived and breathed cinema. The city felt alive with conversations, screenings, and shared excitement among filmmakers, scholars, artists, and cinema lovers from around the world. Each film felt like an invitation to step into another reality and see the world through a different lens.

I particularly enjoyed the Italian and Spanish films showcased at the festival. Their storytelling, emotional depth, and cultural richness left a strong impression on me. The way these films explored human relationships, memory, and identity resonated deeply and reminded me why European cinema holds such a special place in global film culture.

This year, the focal theme of the festival was Poland, which added a distinctive and enriching dimension to the program. One of the most memorable experiences for me was attending the special screening of Chopin Chopin. The film beautifully captured the spirit of Polish culture and music, and the screening felt both intimate and powerful. It stood out as a highlight of the festival and stayed with me long after the credits rolled.

As the Founder of La Casa de los Políglotas, this experience felt closely connected to my own work and vision. Cinema and language share a deep bond. Both allow us to cross borders, listen to unfamiliar voices, and develop empathy for different cultures. The festival reaffirmed my belief in the importance of intercultural dialogue and multilingual engagement.

The 31st Kolkata International Film Festival was not just an event I attended. It was an experience that inspired reflection, creativity, and renewed motivation. I returned with fresh perspectives, a deeper appreciation for world cinema, and gratitude for being part of such a vibrant celebration of global storytelling.
