Yesterday, April 26, 2025, I was invited to participate in World IP Day 2025, themed “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP.” The event took place at the prestigious Satyajit Ray Auditorium, ICCR, Kolkata, organised by Biswajit Sarkar Law Firm and IP Attorneys, in association with the Museology Department of Rabindra Bharati University (RBU).
It was an honour to serve as a panelist alongside eminent High Court and IP lawyers Biswajit Sarkar and Rudraman Bhattacharya, plus distinguished professors from RBU, including Prof. Baisakhi Mitra (Head of the Department of Museology) and two other esteemed professors—one of whom was the retired Dean of the Museology Department.

Key Discussions: Protecting Creativity in the Age of IP
The central theme—music—sparked enriching discussions on how to protect creative works like music, songs, and lyrics through robust copyright registration, fair licensing, and enforcement. We also delved into preserving creators' rights, balancing creativity with commerce, and the vital role IP attorneys and legal frameworks play in defending cultural expressions.
A Moment of Recognition
I was deeply moved to be presented with a memento and receive heartfelt acknowledgment of my contributions in the field of language and linguistics—a reminder that linguistic and cultural work is an essential part of the IP ecosystem.
